CHAPTER EIGHT

Talia pressed the back of her hand to her throbbing lips, her eyes wide, her breath coming in shallow gasps. “What the heck just happened?”

“I don’t know. You tell me,” Harm said.

Talia squeaked, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. “Did I ask that out loud?”

Harm chuckled. “You did.”

She turned her hand over and touched her lips. “I’ve wanted to do that for too long.”

“And now that you have?” He slipped his hands around her waist and pulled her hips against his.

She could feel the hard evidence of his desire dig into her belly and an answering response burn all the way to her core. “I want to do it again.”

He bent his head, his mouth hovering over hers. “What are you waiting for?”

She shook her head, her desire pushing the guilt to the back of her mind. Again, she rose up on her toes, only this time she didn’t have as far to go. Harm met her halfway there, his lips claiming hers in a kiss so hot, it left Talia burning for more.

His tongue traced the seam of her lips until she opened to let him in. He pushed past her teeth and caressed her tongue in a long, sensual sweep.

Talia melted into him, her knees weak, her heart racing. If Harm hadn’t been holding her around her waist, she might have slipped to the ground in a boneless heap. Standing in the middle of a field, with the potential of bad guys returning to finish them off, Talia didn’t care and she didn’t want the kiss to end.

Too soon, the need to breathe superseded her desire. Talia tipped back her head and dragged in a shaky breath. “What are you doing to me?”

He chuckled, the low resonance of the sound reverberating in her chest where it touched his. “I should ask you the same question.”

She laid her cheek against his shirt and listened to the pounding of his heartbeat. He was as affected by the kiss as she had been. For some reason, that made her strangely happy.

Talia drew in another deep breath and let it out before she stepped back far enough that he was forced to relinquish his hold. Immediately, she wished his hands were back around her waist, dipping low on her backside. How she wanted to be much closer. But they were a long way from the resort. By the time they walked there, it would be the wee hours of the morning. Another day would be upon her and, with it, all the chores and duties of a business owner with only the chef to help. The happiness of moments before was weighed down by the extent of her responsibilities.

“Are you ready for a stroll in the starlight?” Harm held out his arm.

Talia smiled and took it. “It’s too bad we can’t call a cab.” As soon as she spoke the words, she remembered. “Wait. I might have a solution. If it wasn’t destroyed.” She strode to the bullet-ridden truck and dug in the console between the front seats.
